An Introduction To Photopolymer Printmaking at Edinburgh Printmakers.
Just finished a fantastic course at the excellent Edinburgh Printmakers Studio. I enjoyed it immensely, as you can tell by my tone. A great teacher in Leena Nammari, who explained things well and kept us all going to get things done on time, with a good set of fellow students.
In essence the idea is to take a photo from either film (scanned) or digital source, create a digital output acetate, then use this to create a photopolymer based etched metal plate for doing more traditional ink and paper printing using a press. In this course we used two types of photopolymer – a Photek Film and a Toyobo Plate – to bond and then etch to create the master print plate.
I’ll not go into too much detail here as my brain is full (or empty) after the two day course, but here are some images to give a feel for what I experienced. I learned loads and have loads more to learn, thanks again to Leena.
